Sink Holes and 2012

On checking the daily tabloids over a brief breakfast between household chores, there is an article stating a 50ft deep sinkhole appeared in London.  What are sinkholes?  What are they for?  Why does the earth do them?  Or is it human stuff? They're everywhere, look:

There is a scientific explanation here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinkhole but I haven't read it yet as I'm pushing for time this morning, I just looked at the pictures (picture copied from Wiki Page as it's the prettiest).

What else, oh yes, someone at work heard a conversation in a chip shop about how the person thought the world had genuinely ended in 2012 and we weren't really real at all as the world as we knew it had ceased.  Maybe it is all fake!  This whole world filled with sinkholes is actually a paper mache creation and we are remote accessed virtual entities for aliens who lost their bodies several years ago in a dispute about cotton wool.  It makes as much sense as any other alien war, right?

Or, maybe we're ghosts, just echoes of what once existed and when people realise this, another sink hole appears, so the more we realise our world isn't real, the more of the world is destroyed and then when there's nothing left we no longer exist at all.  But being ghosts, we cease to exist too.  Thats it, gone.  Knowledge of our reality causes its destruction.  It makes as much sense as any other way of destroying ourselves in the name of difference, right?

Here's the thing though, we only have one planet.  One planet and one chance to exist on it right now.  Never mind reincarnation or any other of that stuff, thats not you that's another version of you, and this life, this one, right now, is the only chance that you, as you, have to live.  Why live it wallowing in anger, regret or bitterness.  Make a choice.  Choose to be happy I reckon.  Its not a difficult decision, as everything else is just wasting time, and you might get swallowed up by a sinkhole this time next Tuesday to find your ghost is only a shadow.  "All we are is dust in the wind, dude."

And with that, I have just arrived at the realisation that my entire understanding of inner peace begins and ends with Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, "All we are is dust in the wind, dude."

Amor stet dum terra volvitur
"May love stand constant while the world turns"
